Here are my excuses for why it has taken a month to blog about our wonderful trip to Cancun: several really busy weeks at work, weekend trip to SC, computer crashed and was revived (thankfully Bob was able to install a new operating system and still recover all our files - lesson learned to back-up stuff), and other general busy-ness. But don't let the delay fool you, Bob and I were blessed to spend a week at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary, and we had a fabulous time! We had also gone to Cancun last year (note - tickets from Orlando to Cancun are very affordable and May is the low season), but this trip was very different. Last year we did explorations, visited Chichen Itza, braved the public bus system and ate awesome Mexican food in little hole-in-the-wall places (while watching on a big screen), etc.
But this year was all about the pampering. We chose an all-inclusive resort and wanted to do less go-go-going and more laying by the pool and enjoying the beach. This was our first experience at an all-inclusive, and although we enjoyed it thoroughly, I wouldn't want to vacation this way all the time. The relaxation was great...seriously the biggest decision each day was at which of the resort's 14 restaurants did we want to have dinner. The staff was wonderful and attended to our every whim, and it was nice not to think about the cost of anything or even need to carry a wallet with us. Our typical day was doing something active in the morning (tennis, biking, running, gym), then reading by the pool and swimming in the afternoon. And lots of eating all the while. The resort had very good entertainment in the evenings, so we would dress up for dinner and listen to music or attend the shows. Also, when we booked we got resort credit through a promotion, so we upgraded to an ocean front room, got two massages each, and went on a jet ski tour one afternoon - still with nothing out of pocket.
The downside is it was less of an authentic Mexican experience, but that was mostly okay since we did that last year. But, we did miss the fabulous Mexican food (read guacamole). The resort food was decent, but not outstanding, and it was very American-ized. But overall we had a wonderful week enjoying each other and not thinking about anything. Oh yeah, the best part might have been we stayed completely unconnected to phones or the internet for the whole week. The resort had internet access, but we just decided to stay away.
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures during many of our fun activities, but here are a few of my favorites. Enjoy!
